Social Minister Korinna Schumann announced an extension of the regulation providing health insurance access for all displaced persons from Ukraine until October 31, 2025. This decision prevents an estimated 26,000 people who do not receive basic benefits from losing medical coverage.

The extension means Ukrainian refugees can continue receiving free compulsory health insurance even after the previous scheme expired on March 4, 2025. Vienna alone has about 13,824 Ukrainian refugees receiving basic assistance whose coverage remains unchanged. Another 3,132 are actively seeking work, and 1,721 are in education or training.
