Austria’s national debt continues to grow and is causing concern.

According to the latest data, Austria’s economic situation is deteriorating once again. At the end of June, the country’s national debt stood at €394.8 billion. While gross domestic product (GDP) stagnates, the debt ratio has jumped sharply: from 78.6% at the start of the year to 83% currently.

Debt obligations continued to rise and by mid-November had already reached nearly €411 billion. Under European Union fiscal criteria, the debt level should not exceed 60% of GDP. If Austria does not implement structural reforms, according to a report from the Federal Ministry of Finance, the debt burden is expected to rise to over 100% of GDP.

The next government will face a difficult task: consolidating the budget, reducing taxes, and curbing growing debt obligations. The government has set a target of keeping the debt ratio below 77% in the future, but whether this can be achieved under current economic conditions remains an open question.

One can only hope that Austria will manage to overcome its economic challenges and maintain stability.
